I love taking Amtrak throughout the northeast. The seats are comfortable. You can get up and walk around when you need to stretch. The seats have electrical outlets. There is wifi (although when the train is crowded it slows down significantly). It’s a scenic ride along the coast. There’s enough space between seats so that you can use your laptop. There’s a cafe car (although it’s expensive – so only good in an emergency). There are plenty of bathrooms. And, the trains are generally on time. The “local” train between Boston and New York is about 4 hours which seems reasonable. If you book your tickets a few weeks in advance they will usually cost between $39 and $56. The price is reasonable when you consider you can get a bunch of work done in peace while you travel. Another major plus is that the stations are generally right in the middle of the city so once you get off the train it’s easy to get where you’re going. One issue is that there are some cell phone dead spots. Click here for the Amtrak website.
